Kimberley and Mark brought their personalities to life in every detail of their October wedding at Backhouse Rossie Estate in Scotland. With a Star Wars and Harry Potter-inspired theme, pumpkins scattered around, and the bride in a stunning black dress paired with the groom’s maroon Converse high tops, it was a day full of character, fun, and autumnal magic. The rustic barn, lush greenery, and beautiful walled garden made for a perfect backdrop for a wedding that was completely them.

The ceremony took place outdoors on the lawn, bathed in gorgeous golden rays – a photographer’s dream, though the harsh October light needed careful positioning to make the most of it. Guests mingled, confetti flew, and there was even a touch of playful chaos with bottles of blue wicked (WKD) being enjoyed in the walled garden.

After the ceremony, we stole Kimberley and Mark into the walled garden for some couple portraits. I spotted an area full of white roses – the perfect contrast to Kimberley’s black dress – and used it to create striking, dramatic images where their outfits and personalities really popped. Playing with the lightsabers in that golden light gave the photos a unique, cinematic feel that really captures the essence of their day.

Back inside, heartfelt speeches warmed the room, followed by an incredible hog roast for dinner. Once the sun started to dip, we went back outside to make the most of the final light – more lightsaber fun, couple shots, and playful moments. Cake cutting and dancing rounded out the evening, with a black-themed cake complete with Harry Potter and Star Wars touches – a fitting end to an epic, one-of-a-kind day.

This Scottish venue is perfect for couples wanting a rustic, greenery-filled wedding with space for both outdoor ceremonies and stunning garden photography. The walled garden, spacious barn, and natural light opportunities make it ideal for DIY weddings with unique styling, playful details, and epic couple portraits.
